A preliminary study on the utilization of gelatinized durian starch as natural coagulant aid in synthetic Congo red wastewater treatment

Coagulation and flocculation are commonly used in water wastewater treatment. Despite its high effectiveness, utilization of inorganic metal salts as coagulant flocculant might cause negative impact to the environment human health. As an alternative tackle this problem, use natural coagulants aids is suggested. In study we reported gelatinized durian starch aid treat synthetic Congo red wastewater. The was extracted using a wet milling process obtained white powder. Alum study, with best coagulation pH at 7. then added various doses. However, addition did not give significant changes removal, increased sludge volume formation. Best condition 7 alum dose 30 mg/L that resulted 91.4% removal 13.6 mL/L volume, without presence aid. Further needed improve ability starch.
